Bedok South
Loft Concept
Project Description

I had a lovely experience with this particular job. The lady owner is a fashionable bachelorette and was completely opened to new and funky ideas! She had chanced upon one of my works on the internet and was thoroughly comfortable with my design instincts. She only had one simple request…..she wanted the apartment to be a breeze to upkeep.....plus it had to look spectacular, of course!

I had the place completely gutted. All internal walls, tiles and cornices were torn down. The entire apartment was re-compartmentalised to better serve her usage. I convinced her to have bare concrete floor throughout the apartment to give it a grungy industrial feel. One prominent wall in the dining area was wallpapered to look like white-washed bricks. However, I kept most of the carpentry and walls white and glossy with plenty of shiny steel and glass finishes. This created an interesting contrast with the floor. The end result was an industrial loft-inspired apartment that was perfectly balanced with modern finishing. To bring focus to the living area, I hand-painted a wall mural inspired by a 1920’s advertisement depicting a lanky stylish lady much like the home-owner herself! The hanging light bulbs light fixture in the living quarters and bedroom was another successful D.I.Y. project that never fails to start conversations with guests!
